Izhmash is one of Russia's largest defense contractors, historically based in Izhevsk. The company was reorganized into the Kalashnikov Group (Kalashnikov Concern) in 2013 as part of Russian defense industry consolidation. It manufactures small arms, ammunition, and various military systems for domestic and export markets.
The company has been subject to international sanctions due to Russia's military actions, particularly following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Izhmash was founded in 1807 in Izhevsk and became famous as the primary manufacturer of Kalashnikov rifles and variants. It operated as a major Soviet defense enterprise and continued as a Russian state-owned company after the USSR's collapse. In 2013, it was merged with Izhmekh to form the Kalashnikov Concern under state ownership.
