AeroVironment's Palletized High Energy Laser is a directed-energy counter-unmanned aircraft system selected by the Pentagon for a Joint Interagency Task Force 401 pilot programme to assess operational use in US homeland defence. The system was one of four directed-energy weapons chosen for evaluation, including a year-long operational pilot on US bases followed by a December shoot-off at Dugway.
